Day 70 Wednesday 28th July:

Rained all night - I can’t remember when I saw this much rain for a long time. It rained all through the Tatra Mts and into Poland. Through Dolny Kubin, Trstenna – evidence here of the old communist regime – blocks of apartments have been tarted up but still look depressing.

Onto the Polish border – typical of all borders, dirty and not very welcoming. A change to when we crossed into Ploand thirty years ago – guns, troops, searches (particularly for books written about Poland since 1945).

Near Rabka and Chabowka there was a traffic jam for about two hours. We were the lucky ones – we could get prepare lunch and have coffee etc while in jam. Glad we hadn’y made arrangements to be in Sedziszow today!

Arrived in Krakow – things had changed dramatically in 30 years – traffic, no parking, loads of activity and still raining.

Later in the afternoon we headed for our night stop 50 km short of Sedziszow.
